More Tom Cruise news

Unless you have been under a rock, you've probably heard about the Tom Cruise's interview on The Today Show earlier in the week. And then, there was the Oprah thing.

Well, a little while ago, I came across this. What is going on with this guy?

Ford's legacy

I thought about this a couple of weeks ago and forgot about it until this post reminded me.

How many laws that are bad for the citizens of Tennessee have gotten through because of Ford selling himself. And how many laws that would have been good for the citizens of Tennessee were killed in committee because of Ford selling himself.

We need red light cameras???

Allstate has released a report that lists Knoxville as the 5th safest city to drive in. You can find the story here .

To be honest, this might kill the red light cameras in Knoxville. Not because the citizens will decide they are not needed, but because companies supplying the cameras may think twice and drop out.

Why?
1. If Knoxville is actually this safe, then it might not have a high enough rate of red light running to make setting up the cameras profitable. If there's not enough profit, they won't set up.

2. We are 5th and that means there's not much room for improvement. Plus there are a whole lot of cities that can move up and pass us up. How would it look for a company to come in with a product that they promise will make our roads safer and when the next study comes out, Knoxville has dropped, say to 10th or 15th. That would not be a good selling point. Would it be worth the risk to them?

Something else to consider. The worst city is Washington, DC. The last figure I found on them is that they had 39 red light cameras in 2002.

It's about time

You can now check on attorneys in Tennessee at this site. You can find out what law school they graduated from, the year they started practicing, and if they have had any disciplinary actions taken against them.

Need a laugh?

Check this out. Betty Bean has Lloyd Daugherty's latest Top Ten List in honor of John Ford's arrest last week. He's become famous, or infamous depending on how you see it, for them. I have to say, this is one of his best. It's halfway down the page, right after the report on "Pantygate".

It's just a bad idea

I was watching the Knox County School Board meeting tonight on TV. One of the issues covered was the first reading for implementing the "Time for Time" policy in all high schools. (Personally, I think it's bad policy, but then I'm just a parent. What do I know.)

Anyway, Jim Williams wanted to add an amendment to the policy. Currently, the attendance policy allows students, regardless of the reason for an absence, to make up any missed school work. He wanted to change the policy so that if a student is suspended for 1-3 days, they do NOT have the right to make up school work. Any test, assignment, project, whatever that occurs during that suspension is a ZERO. (I'm assuming that if the teacher chooses to allow the student to make up the work, they may. I could be wrong.) Mr. Williams said that several teachers had complained to him that having students, who are suspended a lot, make up work was too much of a hassle. Tough shit. It's part of the job.

Site for the new Knox County high school

The site has been picked. It's next to the Hardin Valley Elementary School.

There are 2 parcels. They have a contract on the first one which is about 25 acres. They are waiting to get a contract on the second parcel. The owners are a brother and sister who inherited it. They are in the process of getting their own apprasial and there are some issues with the state of Tennessee about inheritance taxes. But the county hopes to have a contract on it by the end of the month.

No wonder I had trouble with Google last week....

Last week, I had some trouble getting to a lot of sites. Could this have been why? (Good thing I didn't go out and get a new modem and/or router.)
