We need red light cameras???
Allstate has released a report that lists Knoxville as the 5th safest city to drive in. You can find the story here .
To be honest, this might kill the red light cameras in Knoxville. Not because the citizens will decide they are not needed, but because companies supplying the cameras may think twice and drop out.
Why?
1. If Knoxville is actually this safe, then it might not have a high enough rate of red light running to make setting up the cameras profitable. If there's not enough profit, they won't set up.
2. We are 5th and that means there's not much room for improvement. Plus there are a whole lot of cities that can move up and pass us up. How would it look for a company to come in with a product that they promise will make our roads safer and when the next study comes out, Knoxville has dropped, say to 10th or 15th. That would not be a good selling point. Would it be worth the risk to them?
Something else to consider. The worst city is Washington, DC. The last figure I found on them is that they had 39 red light cameras in 2002.
