Ford resigns

Senator John Ford has resigned. Campfield reported it this morning. Commercial Appeal has a story on their website about it. WREG in Memphis has the story up too.

Traffic cameras are legal

According to the State Attorney General in this opinion published earlier this week, they are. The opinion was requested by Tim Burchett. So does this mean that he might be willing to introduce legislation that would make the use of traffic cameras illegal and that he wanted to get an opinion before introducing it?

John Ford always has an answer

John Ford seems to always have a way of excusing all the things he does. I've been wondering what he will say to defend himself against these accusations. I can hear it now.

"Your Honor, it wasn't a bribe. They gave me money but I didn't do what they wanted me to do because they arrested me before I could get it done. Therefore, I'm not guilty!"

It was quite the day in Nashville

I was doing my mid-morning check of the blogs when I can across this. I was surprised at first and then started to wonder why it has taken so long. If you're not from Tennessee or been under a rock all day, here' s few links to get you up to speed.

Here's Stacey Campfield's blog. He was one of the first to report that something was going on and he's also my state rep.

Here's Bill Hobbs blog. He was all over the story, all day.

Four current legislators have been arrested, along with a former legislator. Charles Love, a Hamilton County school board member has also been arrested. He's a lobbyist and according to the official state lobbyist list, his only client is his own lobbying firm. That should raise eyebrows alone. Apparently, he's the guy that suggested the bill to Ford. They have said that there is one more person to be arrested. I had heard the name Barry Meyers earlier in the day but nothing recent.

I'm starting to wonder how many other bills that have become law got through because of this type of corruption. One that comes to mind is the bill to increase what businesses could charge for returned checks. Was Ford or any of the other involved with it? Is someone going to go over any of the bills Ford proposed to see if they were questionable? If they are, will they be reconsidered?

Do they also come in boxers and briefs?

If they don't, they should. (They would have to use something else than a flower to conceal the device. They could just stick it in some padding for enhancement.)

Update: Apparently, this site is a hoax and no such product exists. Good. But isn't the thought that something like this could exist just out and out scarry.

I swear this happened

I pick my son up from school. He's in high school but he doesn't drive yet and the bus is overcrowded in the afternoon. I like doing it because, for those few moments, he has to talk to me. (If he doesn't talk, I will and he would rather listen to himself than me.) During these drives, I've heard tales I would rather not hear and I do get a good idea of how things are going. Usually the first 2 questions I ask are 1) how was your day and 2) how much homework do you have. I'll get back on topic now.

One day last week, I was running early. I'm waiting for a long line of buses to pull into the parking lot. I'm facing the buses so I have a good look at the drivers. I swear this happened. All these buses have middle school students already on them. Then I see a bus driver, with students already on the bus, navigating through school zone traffic, TALKING ON A CELL PHONE. I kid you not.

This is disgusting.

This is unbelievable. While this story is about New York, there are suspicions the same thing is happening in other states.

Update: It is happening in other states. The same state where at least a couple of young girls have been raped and killed over the past few months.

This could be interesting

I can't wait to find out what this is all about.
