ABCNEWS.com : Some Can't Evacuate New Orleans for Ivan

This does not make me feel very confident about emergency preparations our government has in place. If the Homeland Security can't help with the evacuation in a situation where they have a couple of days notice, how are they going to handle evacuations in aftermath of a terrorist attack. If nothing else, it would give them a practice run to see what areas they might need improving before a terrorist attack.

End of the assault gun ban

The ban on assault guns ended earlier this week. While I'm not somebody who felt strongly either way about it, I do have some observations about it.

1) If someone wants to commit a serious crime where they feel the need for an assault gun, I don't think they are going to let a little ol' ban stand in their way.

2) Supply and demand. If there is a demand, there usually will be a supply.

3) There's the argument that we need to keep these weapons out of the hands of terrorists. OK, I'll bite. First, check point 1 above. Second, I don't want to see terrorists have these weapons either, but if we take this as far as we can, how will we open boxes?
