I moved earlier this summer. I did not enjoy the experience. As a matter of fact, I believe that moving should be a punishment in our criminal judicial system.
We moved from an apartment into a rather large house. That's the nice part. The not so nice part has been trying to find people who can fix things around the house. It's just the anxiety of hiring someone and hoping the problem doesn't become worse. So far, so good.
I hired a painter for my son's room. He did a beautiful job. I had done all the painting at my previous house but hadn't done any in the 7 years of apartment life. When he gave me the estimate for the job, it was a bad case of sticker shock. But I wanted the room painted before my son returned from a trip and I just didn't have the time. Now I'm trying to find excuses for not being able to paint the rest of the house myself so that I can have him back over.
I've also had to hire people to deal with the yard. Only the front is lawn and has to be mowed. The back yard is wooded and that has me more concerned right now. There are a few dead trees that need to be taken down plus a few that are growing over the house and need to be trimmed back so the house won't be damaged in a storm.
The lastest area I have lucked out in was having my dryer vent redone. The dryer was vented into the garage. That was not a good thing. In addition to causing high humidity in the house, it was so clogged, it was a fire waiting to happen. Now it's vented to the outside and instead of vinyl hose, it's straight galvanized pipe. Clothes sure dry faster.
I guess so far I've done well. Now I just have to find a plumber and an electrican. I hope I can maintain my batting average.
